Stelios's Fastjet... Long Haul Ambitions...

The Sunday Telegraph has managed to talk to Sir Stelios about his plans for FastJet.

According to the peice, FastJet will take on the Long Haul flights as oppsed competing on the short-haul EuroRoutes.

The name Fastjet is however a holding name for the project. The name "Stelios" is being banded around as a brand.

Meanwhile the rumbling fight that is brewing between Sir Stelios and EasyJet (of which Stelios's family owns 37.4%), of which EasyJet may seek a high court injunction to stop Stelios doing what he does best.

The skies are alas littered with Long Haul Startups (in particular, EOS, MaxJet, Zoom), but it seems the time is right for investors to try again (with Singapore Airlines LCC starting up, Air Asia X giving it a good go). However, for those long haul flights, making savings on "dead time" on the ground is going to tough work.

Can they make it work? I'm honestly not sure.

Stelios is up to something.... but what?

It seems Stelios Haji-Ioannou of EasyJet fame is planning something called FastJet....

But what is he up to? Certainly EasyJet aren't over impressed.


EasyJet say: it has received notice from Haji-Ioannou that he

"intends to set up airline branded Fastjet and that a website, www.fastjet.com, has already been established".


and


"To the extent that any activity of Fastjet, Sir Stelios or any company controlled by him infringes or would infringe those rights (under EasyJet's agreement with Haji-Ioannou and EasyGroup), EasyJet will take necessary action to protect the rights of EasyJet and the interests of its shareholders."

Oooh. Fightin' words!

Both sides are in discussion of where to go next, but the important question is this.  

WHAT IS (SIR) STELIOS UP TO? 

He's had a fair few misses (who can remember EasyPizza and EasyCinema?), but he's had a few hits with EasyCar and EasyHotel, so this is an interesting move. Is it a long haul airline? Is it a NetJets style thing?

So many questions.. and so fare one screen shot...
