Fallout: DME Incident

Time to examine the fallout of Mondays disaterous incident at Moscow Domodedovo (DME) Airport.

What has emerged is that the leadership wants to tighten security and have it's pound of flesh over the incident.

Proposals have been made to introduce an Israeli-style airport security system Dmitry Medvedev has said, whilst blaming airport officials for security breaches - with a call for sackings if negligence can be proved.

The bomb itself was a 7kg TNT device, killing killing 35 people and injuring 110, which was detonated in the international arrivals hall of the airport.

He blamed airport officials for "clear security breaches", and called for sackings if negligence was proved.

Mr Medvedev accuses the airport of letting "pure anarchy reign" Quoting:.

"People were allowed to walk in from anywhere. The entrance restrictions were partial at best."

An investigation by the prosecutor general will be started would establish whether transport officials were guilty of criminal negligence.

The Airport authorities firmly denied any culpability and state they meet all requirements of air transport security.

DME itself is open, but security has been tightened. SVO (Sheremetyevo) is following suit with tightening security.

Breaking news from Moscow, where a blast has occured that has killed at least 10 people.

BBC News reports that dozens more are thought to have been injured in the blast, and some reports are suggesting this may have been the work of a suicide bomber.

Emergency services are on the scene and tending to the wounded.

Early reports suggested the blast may have hit the baggage reclaim area of the international arrivals hall, with A RIA Novosti news agency correspondent at the scene reported that a lot of smoke could be seen in the area, and there was a smell of burning.

Not good especially with the losses of lives. Lets hope the injured make it through.
